The White House Artificial Intelligence Council is established within the Executive Office of the President by executive-order-14110 to coordinate AI-related activities across the federal government and ensure effective implementation of AI policies.
The Council is chaired by the Assistant to the President and Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and includes cabinet-level officials from all major departments and agencies, including the Secretaries of State, Defense, Commerce, Homeland Security, and other key positions.
The Council's function is to coordinate activities across federal agencies to ensure effective formulation, development, communication, industry engagement, and timely implementation of AI-related policies. The Chair may create and coordinate subgroups consisting of Council members or their designees as appropriate.
The Council represents the highest-level coordination mechanism for federal AI policy implementation and serves as the primary interagency body for AI governance under the Biden administration.
